Handhelds Can Do!

A conference is a time to network with others who share a common interest. Sometimes networking is the most valuable part of a conference day! I look forward to discussing handheld implementation in schools with educators around the country this week in Michigan.

One question that follows much of my discussion with administrators beginning or sustaining a handheld initiative seems to always center on "what is different" in classrooms using handhelds. If we are to get beyond the "techno loving" teacher and broaden implementation to every classroom, let's put the lens on the teacher. Are all teachers capable of handheld classroom learning? How can handheld classrooms foster teaching change?

Thanks for posting your comments to this question:

How has teaching changed in classrooms using handhelds?

  • Good Afternoon Christine!
I just wanted to say "Thank You" for your inspiring sessions at the Michigan Handheld Conference on Friday. I drove up from Bowling Green, Ohio and they day was well worth it! I had only planned to attend your first session on the Free Aps. and then visit with other presenters. However, your first session was so good, I kept my chair warm by staying for two more. I really found the Reading in the Content Areas and Handhelds meaningful, as well. I have come away from those first three sessions with many ideas for my 6 little Palm Zire 72's and using them with my Science and Language Arts students. (Now to find grant money to move to the next stage of having a class set of handhelds!)
Thanks again for your energy, ideas and shared knowledge! I hope to stay in contact for more ideas and advice.

    Sincerely,
    Jeff Johnston
